Duck Creak was a collaboration of three singer-songwriters, Bruce Everett, Ken Lunn and Donn Tarris. All Salt Spring Island locals, they have a combined total of 190 years of living under their belts and thus they are also known as the ‘Creakin’ Ducks’.
Creating songs about the greed of the one percent wealthy , or the tragic disappearance of women on the Highway of Tears, or the dichotomy of love when found, they each bring their own style of storytelling to the band.
Bruce has toured extensively as harmonica sideman with Canadian-great Ken Hamm, letting him polish his skills as songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist. He also travels to play Kirtan music.
Donn has two cds of original tunes to his credit and has worked with many west coast artists over the past 45 years in the capacity of bandmate, sideman, recording engineer, producer and mastering engineer. His songs are inspired by romance and self-exploration and the challenges of society.
Ken cut his musical teeth around Kingston, Ontario with bands like Clergy Street Beat, Flambé, kenundrum and Stan’s Garage. He was also a long time organizer with Blue Skies Music Festival, including a stint as Artistic Director.
When time and schedules permit, Duck Creak becomes a five piece band with the added rhythm section of Laurent Boucher (drums) and Valdy on bass. Matt Brain joined the band on drums after Laurent moved to Saskatchewan, playing a handful of gigs before the group disbanded in summer of 2022.
